Bringing the cycles and elements of nature into a space is one of the ways that Feng Shui helps to improve environments. Each element brings with it certain qualities and the Feng Shui element of wood can help us to get moving.
Wood is representative of the early spring, the time of year when tiny seeds are woken from their winter slumber and begin the miraculous process of transformation into whatever it is that they will ultimately become. We too begin to wake up, to become more active and we feel the urge to make changes to our environment.
When we use the color green, tall cylindrical shapes, and wooden items in our environments we are adding a subtle reminder that we are indeed a part of the Living Feng Shui of the earth. We are reminded of our inherent need for growth, our deep desire to push through barriers and to flourish.
We have become so disconnected from the planet that sustains us that we need elemental intervention more now than perhaps ever in our history. By bringing natural colors, shapes and finishes indoors we can connect in a tactile, visual, and mental way back to Mother Earth.
So many beautiful things are made of wood, like these fabulous wooden pendants by West Elm.
And this cylindrical vase found at My Habit brings the wood element in through its shape.
Plants are also an obvious natural way to incorporate the energy of wood and I can’t wait to see how far living walls like these ones are going to develop in the future.
It’s easy to bring some wood into your home so go with the season’s natural energy and get growing!
