Today is the opening of the famous Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and it got me thinking about dogs, and in particular, my own pooch Brie (I love cheese, and I love dogs, hence the name).
I am a firm believer that our external lives are a reflection of our internal selves and so I have always looked at my dog and chuckled at the ways that she reflects me.
She is an 11 year old border collie and like all dogs has her own particular personality traits. She is like me in the following ways:
- She’s black and white. Me too! I see the world in a fairly black and white way. I also love to wear both black and white, so does she : )
- She’s a little standoffish, not unfriendly, just a bit guarded. She wants to know that you are trustworthy before giving her heart fully.
- She is a willing participant in whatever is going on, but likes to be asked. She’s not likely to just jump right in all willy nilly, but if invited, is all in.
- She’s loyal. Once she’s got your trust, she is solidly beside you. A quiet, kind of loyal, but loyal.
- She likes her personal space. She will come for a cuddle when she needs one but doesn’t want to be all glommed on (I don’t think that’s a word).
- She is driven. Once she gets started on something, there is no stopping her. But she’s also careful, and weighs her options before making a move.
I adore my dog, and she is indeed a pretty close reflection of me in all our unique and quirky ways. By the way, like all dogs, she gets Feng Shui. She always chooses the ‘command position’ of the house to get comfortable in. Dogs are smart that way!

Great post!. I have often thought that my dogs are a reflection of my spouse and I. And the kids are a reflection of the dogs! (one can be a demanding diva, the other strong and silent but don’t mess with him.
